A 2003 study by Harvard University’s Leslie Jeng and Richard Zeckhauser and Yale University’s Andrew Metrick found that insider purchases beat the market by 11.2% per year.

Tips for beating the market tend to come and go quickly, but one has held up extremely well: if executives, directors, or others with inside knowledge of a public company are buying or selling shares, investors should consider doing the same thing. Is it always true?
